Yes, that is the sound I just made. I’ve just bought myself a shiny new toy! My old laptop is four years old, so it was high time I replaced it and Lion just came out so that was just the excuse I needed! :D
I’m loving my new MacBook Pro, it’s my third one now, and yes, I know I’m an Apple tart. Spec-wise it’s the base 15″ model, I was going to go for the high resolution display and bigger hard drive but that would mean ordering it, which would completely kill my impulsive spending spree!
The best thing is, it came with Lion! My old laptop didn’t have a multitouch trackpad, so I wouldn’t have experienced the joy of Lion’s gestures (I’m justifying the purchase here), which really are quite cool. Fullscreen is great too, as is Mission Control. I’m not particularly enamoured with Launchpad yet, but we’ll see if it grows on me.
The best change I feel is the scroll direction, it’s reversed. So to scroll down a you scroll up. It may sound odd, but it’s actually the natural way! “Old school” scrolling is focused on the scrollbar, you move the scrollbar down to move the page down. Apple has now done away with the scrollbars, much like on iOS, until you scroll. The change is very annoying to start with, but you soon get used to it once you realise why it’s changed and you start to think like you’re moving the page, rather than the scrollbar.
Otherwise it’s not a massive change from Snow Leopard, a few UI tweaks here and there, nothing massive from what I can tell. There are plenty of really in depth reviews out there if you want to find out more about it, I’m just going to see how it goes!
